The relationship between Israel and Europe is showing serious cracks when even Germany, one of the most devoted allies of Israel, starts to have a negative attitude towards it.

Three years ago, Israel still had very close ties to Europe. It participated in sport competitions and in the song contest Eurovision practically as a part of Europe but the friendship started to crack when Israel started its destructive acts of war in Gaza killing over 70 000 Palestinians, a third of whom were under-aged.

Due to the atrocities during the Second World War, Germany has been one of the strongest European allies of Israel and its diplomatic and material support has been criticized in Europe. The two latest German governments have been openly supporting Israel. Still, between the years 2025 and 2026 the support of Israel among German citizens has decreased 9% from 36% to 27% not seeing Israel unfavourably.

The election of Israel will be held on 27 October 2026. The results and the possible continuation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will most likely have an effect on, how the next chapters of the European-Israel relationship will be written.
